Plus Member Discounts
Anyone can shop at the Reuse Center, which offers items at low cost. Additional discounts are given to Plus members: people who meet our income guidelines as well as other nonprofit organizations.
Financial Gifts
The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources is a project of the Boston Building Materials Co-op Charitable and Educational Fund, a charitable nonprofit organization. Because materials are priced low to remain affordable, income from sales does not cover all our operating costs. Your contribution helps the Reuse Center to continue its role as a community resource.
CASE Grants
Boston Building Resources’ CASE (Community Assistance Supplies & Essentials) program grants up to $500 of materials to an individual or family in need.
Volunteer with Us
Boston Building Resources is not “just a store“—we are a community of homeowners, renovators, contractors, and others who are seeking to make our cities and neighborhoods better places to live. Volunteers are an important part of our organization:
Our History
How did Building Resources, a Co-op founded in the 1970s, create The Reuse Center, a nonprofit store, in 1993? It all comes down to recognizing and meeting community need.
Carpenter Neil Israel Saves Money for His Clients with Reuse Center Materials
If you hear humming and drumming in BBR’s Reuse Center, carpenter Neil Israel may be perusing the nearby shelves. “I shop here a lot,” Neil says. He finds materials to use for client projects as well as for his own home. “You find very unusual things here sometimes,” he says. “Things you don’t see every day.”
Wear What Works
Women who work in the building trades gathered at BBR recently to discuss gear: the clothing and accessories they’ve found that fit well and stand up to jobsite wear and tear. Several tradeswomen modeled and shared the deets on their favorite brands.
For Liz Martin, a Home Inspection Is a Teaching Opportunity
BBR member Liz Martin has an appreciation for older houses that she brings to her work as a home inspector as well as restoration work on her own Roslindale two-family home. “It’s fun talking to people about how houses work—because we live in them, but we don’t necessarily know how they work.”
With Persistence and Plaster Magic, Beth Rimas Is Restoring her Home
Since she bought it in 2001, Beth Rimas’s single-family house in Roslindale has been a work in progress. Under the 1970s paneling and drop ceilings was plaster, and much of it was starting to crack and pull away from the supporting wood lath. Big Wally’s Plaster Magic has been her go-to plaster repair system.
