Cedar shingles and clapboards give many old houses their charm. In this hands-on class, you will learn the basics of preparation, layout, and installation of the plywood and then the siding itself. If time allows, you will be able to use traditional as well as power tools.
Mike Wenger is an experienced summer camp woodworking instructor, having taught for nearly twenty summers for Newton Public Schools. Currently, he is helping with a timber-framed shed at the Leland Street Garden in Jamaica Plain, where he helped teach timber framing and even cut the siding with his small sawmill. When he has time to travel, he is helping build his nephew’s house in Pennsylvania.
